Using our Gifts

January 25, 2005 | Comments: 3

He who is gifted with a desire to know God, and to appropriate rightly the provisions of his grace, shall increase in wisdom and knowledge more and more by the manifold revelations of divine truth. But the man of opposite character, who has heart, soul and mind wherewith to love God, but is unwilling to use his powers in earnest search for the truth, shall lose even what he seems to have. His powers will become weak and worthless by inactivity, and like the slothful servant in the parable of the talents, he will lose that which should have been his glory.

~ Milton Terry, Biblical Hermeneutics 1898, p.279

We had better get busy, then. I am heartened by your going to Hoodland again. Which gifts do you presently possess, Andrew, that you are not using regularly? Nathan.

I believe I am gifted to teach and preach, to open God’s Word to people, whether with many, or with one. I would love to find the way to do this more…

To the extent that God opens doors, I will endeavor to give myself to this with all my heart.

Through Evergreen’s expanding ministry we will need your help to preach and to teach. We are now being asked by Beaverton Lodge, the retirement center home to Harriet Beers, Evergreen member, to preach twice a month on Sundays at 1:00 p.m. I will need your help to do this work. As we have discussed I will need you to preach occasionally at Hoodland and one or twice this spring and summer at Evergreen. Nathan.
